I really appreciate the readers and I frequently encourage my students and dearest ones to read the books as per their own interests. I am strictly stick on the presupposition that Good Books do not harm, instead they broaden the visions of self and the world. Charles Jones once said -“You are the same as you will be in five years except for two things, the books you read and the people you meet.”
How much should you read?
If you are the starter, I recommend making a commitment to read a minimum of 10 pages per day (Of course! five is okay to start with). Reading 10 pages per day is not going to break you, but it will definitely make you. If you are able to read 10 pages per day, you will cover the 3650 pages per year in an average. Which approximately comprises the 18 books. In other words, 3650 pages = 18 books approx. Imagine if you read 18 books per year according to your interest; what such reading habits make you? It will definitely make you more knowledgeable, capable and confident.
Some valuable tips on reading
- Before you begin reading any book, ask yourself why you are reading that book, what do you want to gain out of it and keep that outcome in mind.
- Go through the preface of the book. It is the most important part of a book after it’s name. It gives the reader an idea of the topic and it’s range which the book discusses. Preface is simultaneously the first and the last part of the book, as it precedes the narration itself and serves as the explanation of the author’s point of view and the answer to the comments.
- Make the notes on the book. Use highlighters, do underline and circle the topics that most hit you. In the future, you don’t have to go back and read all the topics. These highlights, circles and underlines will be enough to know the gist of the book.
- Discuss the ideas of the books with others (with your peers, friends, nearest and dearest ones).
- Try to implement the gist of the knowledge and insights of the books in your practical life.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
